ella begins high school at the cambridge school of weston.
CSW provides her first official artistic education.
ella experiences many artistic firsts, including:
- 1st nude model
- 1st expossure to art history
- 1st photography darkroom
she develops a love for artistic process and emotionally personal art.
1st attempt at love
ella begins making art about love and relationships
for her senior project, ella travels to israel for a month and films and edits "facing the draft," a documentary on israeli teenagers and their thoughts on israel's mandatory draft into the army.
ella subsequently falls in love with story telling.
during the last 5 weeks of high school, ella makes a camera obscura.
she takes pictures of the CSW quad.
she must run back and forth between the darkroom and the pinhole camera room with photo paper wrapped in a black bag.
this experience makes her feel happy and prematurely nostalgic for high school.
ella starts college at washington university in st louis.
on her first day ella only sees one kid that looks 'artsy,' a greesy boy with long hair.
she fears that she has made a huge mistake in coming to WashU--she does not own her own hair brush.
ella switches into WashU's art school.
her first class as an art student is 2D design in which she is forced to paint a color wheel by hand.
this leads to her first art-school related tantrum.
